She has three children, Beth Nance, Cody Morris, Amy Morris (deceased) and one granddaughter.
Ms. Morris would like to serve the citizens of Rowan County by putting their interests and concerns above party politics. Two of her special areas of concern are healthcare for seniors and special education for the handicapped. Rep. Mitch Gillespie, House Minority Whip, Rep. Fred Steen, House District 76 (Rowan), Rep. Mark Hilton, House District 96 (Catawba), Rep. Jeff Barnhart, House District 82 (Cabarrus) and other elected officials and supporters were in attendance to support Ms. Morris in her first run for public office.
"I believe we must educate all of our children and come up with cost effective ways to provide the quality education our children deserve. There is too much testing and not enough preparation of our children with life-skills to get students ready for the world of work. In NC 60% of the state's budget is already designated for education, not including that derived from the lottery. We must make our dollars go further so that we don't neglect the needs of other segments of our society including the poor, the elderly and the disabled."
 Republican Philosophy
WE BELIEVE:
That the right of individuals to achieve the best that is within themselves as long as they respect the rights of others is the source of our Nation’s strength.
Government exists to protect the freedom of opportunity in which each individual’s creative ability can flourish.
Government activities should be limited to those things which people cannot do at all, or cannot provide for themselves should be assisted by both government and society, but that every effort should be made to help them become self-supporting, productive citizens with pride in their independence.
Equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity belong to all, regardless of race, creed, age, sex or national origin.
The preservation of our Nation and the security of our citizens depend upon the Constitution, the laws and the courts, and respect for them is the responsibility of every individual.
Government is accountable for maintaining sound money and a responsible economy.
Individual rights, liberties and properties are continually eroded when citizens are oppressed by excessive taxation, inflation, government waste and over-regulation.
Government is responsible for national defense and only a strong America can remain a free America .
It is absolutely essential to maintain a strong national defense posture in order that we may at all times negotiate from a position of strength, not weakness, in our efforts toward world peace and friendship.
These concepts are the foundation of our national strength and that the Republican Party, which is committed to their preservation, is the Party of today and the Party of the Future. ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
“Our nation is a country of immigrants who have made this country great but who also did it by earning their citizenship legally.” Susan Morris believes that North Carolina needs a stringent plan to deal with the pressing issue of illegal immigration. She sees the issue of illegal immigration as one that threatens the state’s economy by overburdening the state’s social service budget and one of homeland security. The provisions of Morris’ immigration reform plan include: - Require businesses that do work for the state to verify a workers’ immigration status
- Create stronger penalties for those caught making fake IDs
- Require the courts to verify the citizenship of any individual appearing in a state court
- Prohibit legal state residents from being bumped off public housing lists by illegals
- Require identification in order to receive state and local services
- Stiff punitive penalties for knowingly hiring illegal workers
- Prohibit illegal aliens from obtaining driver licenses by significantly tightening regulations
- Withhold funding to cities that participate in the sanctuary policy for illegal immigrants. The practice of sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants has allowed violent criminals to enter the country and commit crimes within in the United States.
Morris believes that her common sense approach will stop North Carolina from acting like a magnet for illegal aliens.
