Susan Lane Morris, a resident of Salisbury, has filed as a Republican candidate for House Seat 77. Susan is a life-long resident of Rowan County and this will be her first bid for public office. Susan has experience in politics, having been involved for over 20 years serving on the Salisbury-Rowan Republican Women’s board, the Rowan Republican Party executive board, and as area representative for the Foothills District. She was presented as an honoree of the Salisbury-Rowan Republican Women in 2004 by the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women and was the first recipient of Republican of the Year in Rowan County in 2004. The Salisbury Lions Club named Susan Lion of the Year in 2004.

A local business woman, Susan owns and operates Bethamy Enterprises, Inc. for three long term care-assisted living centers. She also owns a local restaurant and has real estate interests. Susan has always been concerned with the healthcare issues that impact the clients she serves and has served on various committees and boards for the North Carolina Association of Long Term Care of which she is currently state secretary.

Explaining her concerns, Susan says, “I have enjoyed working with the Legislature on issues that involve all aspects of healthcare, insurance and business. On a daily basis, I see the problems seniors and low-income people have with the system. Having over 32 years experience as a small business owner, I have a fresh look at the issues. I have always had to use a common sense approach to make business work. I know we need lower taxes, and restrained county and state spending is a must for Rowan County and North Carolina. As we plan for the future and educate our children, we have to control spending. I am not tied to present leadership, and I look forward to representing all people of this district.”

Susan adds, “I have always been proud of my roots in Rowan County. I was born and raised in East Spencer, lived and worked in Spencer for 25 years and now live in Salisbury. We must promote our tourism, capitalize on the development of the biotechnology center in Rowan/Cabarrus and not let these opportunities elude us. I have the leadership ability to help make crucial decisions that will move us forward for our future.”

Susan graduated from North Rowan High School and Salisbury Beauty School in 1968. She attended Rowan Technical Institute (now Rowan-Cabarrus Community College) and Biscayne Southern College. Executive Director of the Educational Foundation of NCALTCF, she has earned over 15 continuing education credits each year since 1979. She is also a certified Domiciliary Care Administrator Preceptor.  Susan is a certified Reiki Master (The Usui System of Natural Healing and that is currently working on qualifying to be licensed as a Certified Natural Health Professional)

Susan is extensively involved in her community. Her activities include being a Girl Scout leader and charter member of the North Rowan Boosters Club. She is a member of numerous clubs and organizations including the Town of Spencer Zoning Board of Adjustments, Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association, Spencer Women’s Club, NC Federation of Women, Pilots International – Salisbury Pilots Club, Carolina Artisans Guild, Central Carolina Bank-Spencer Board of Advisors, Spencer Business Association, and US Chamber of Commerce. Susan is a member of Coburn Methodist Church and serves on the Pastor Parrish and Finance Committees.
